Privacy
In short: you can use Know Your Vote without an account, we set no cookies, we don't record the ZIP codes you look up, and we never sell or share anything about you.
No accounts, no cookies
There is nothing to sign up for or log in to. The site does not set cookies and does not use advertising or tracking pixels.
Your ballot lookup
When you type a ZIP code to see your ballot, your browser downloads public data files and finds your districts on your own device. The ZIP code you type is not sent to us or to our analytics, and we do not record it. If you share your ballot, the link you share contains that ZIP code so the person you send it to sees the same ballot.
Analytics
To understand which pages are useful, we run our own copy of Umami, an open-source, cookie-free analytics tool, at stats.bipartisan.org. It is hosted by us, not by an outside analytics company. It counts page views and a few anonymous actions, such as a ballot lookup (by state only), a share button being used, or a donate button being clicked (by platform and race only). Along with each page view it keeps only general details, such as browser, device type, screen size, language, the site that linked to the page, and an approximate location (country, region or city) worked out from the connection; the IP address itself is not stored. It stores no personal data: no names, no email addresses, no IP addresses, no ZIP codes and nothing you type. Page addresses are recorded without anything after the "?".
If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, the analytics script does not record your visit at all.
Server logs
Like every website, our web server keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, page requested, time and browser type). They are used only to keep the site secure and running.
Nothing sold or shared
We never sell, rent, trade or share information about visitors with anyone, including candidates, parties, campaigns, PACs or advertisers.
Donation links
Donate buttons go straight to a candidate's own verified ActBlue or WinRed page. We never handle donations or see what you give. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
