About Know Your Vote

Nonpartisan, every fact sourced. Know Your Vote does not support or oppose any candidate or party. Every number on the site links to the public record it came from, and candidates in the same race are shown side by side with the same information and the same space.

How donation links work

We never collect or handle money. Where we can confirm that a donation page belongs to the candidate's own campaign, we link to it: ActBlue for Democrats, WinRed for Republicans, and the official campaign website for independents or anyone without a verified page. A page counts only if it lists a single recipient whose name is the candidate or one of their FEC-registered campaign committees, for the right state and office. Campaign websites count only if they link to that verified page or carry the committee's own "Paid for by" line. If we can't confirm a link, we show none rather than guess.

How candidate photos work

We show a photo only when it comes from an official public domain portrait or a freely licensed Wikimedia Commons file, matched to the candidate by an ID number, never by a name search. Each photo carries its credit and license. In any race, photos appear only when every Democratic and Republican candidate on the ballot has one, or, in a race without both, when every candidate has one. Otherwise everyone in that race gets the same plain initials circle, so no candidate looks more prominent than another. We never use campaign photos.
